Our History

The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) traces its roots to San Francisco, where, in 1997, a group of young professionals began to meet informally to discuss issues within the nonprofit sector and offer tips on professional development. YNPN has grown to become one of the nation’s largest associations of nonprofit practitioners and supporters and was named “Top 10 Nonprofits to Watch in 2012″ by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. The YNPN movement includes a national organization and over 40 chapters in cities across the country.

Our local chapter, YNPN Boston, was founded in 2007 to provide support and resources for young professionals working in the Greater Boston nonprofit community. Since then, we’ve hosted and organized networking and professional development events to bring these individuals to each other and the opportunities in Boston, and we’re connected with over 9,000 users through the YNPN Boston Listserv, social media, and our events. In 2014, YNPN Boston received its official 501(c)(3) status. We are run by the all-volunteer YNPN Boston Leadership Team comprised of motivated and talented young professionals who serve as board members and ambassadors.
